thanks koz. i'll defrag right after this. i've been using audacity for a couple of years now and this is the first time i've had any trouble at all. i'm no where near full. i only record a few minutes of a backing track to jam over. all of my anti virus/ malware is up to date. i have norton, spybot,...

when recording, the indicator moves to 6 then stops, although it' still records. then after 40 seconds it jumps to 40 then moves in spurts. when i play back, it sounds alright, then after a minute it sounds like everything is in an echo chamber. never did this before.
