Anyway, thanks for the quick reply. The website seems to contradict your statement that 1.2.5 is not supported on Intel with Mac OS X. The download page recommends it as THE stable version. But I will take your advice and try the BETA to see if this strange bug goes away.

There is a vigorous developer debate about that. Mostly non-Mac users. Audacity 1.2.5 will not run on my test system.

I also have the problem that typing a filename in the save dialog was activating keyboard shortcuts - very annoying! Eg Backspace deletes the selection I was trying to export!
I was using Audacity 1.2.5 on MACOSX 10.5.8. I've had the problem for ages, so I would have had many OSX updates installed and they've all had the same bug.

I just downloaded 1.3.11 beta and no longer having the issue.

YES! Having the exact same problem here.
When I goto type the letter R into a file name when saving it starts recording. Most annoying!

I take it there is no solution apart from either no using the letter R in file names (and renaming them after outside of Audacity)
or to upgrade to the new Beat version?

Whilst attempting to save a song when you type the file name as well as "R" starting recording I have also found:-

B - makes the start of the song play for a second
A - switches left through Selection Tool, Envelope Tool etc
D - switches rightthrough Envelope Tool, Selection Tool etc
L - plays the whole thing and loops it

God knows what the rest of the none letter keys do. I half expected it to print out my song with the letter P.

A crazy bug in an otherwise brilliant program!

You shouldn't be doing that... 1.2.5 is a very ancient version!!

Upgrading to 1.3.12 is highly recommended.

If for some reason you want to be running an 1.2.x version you should at the very least upgrade to 1.2.6 (but 1.3.12 is probably a better option anyway).

You have to download it.

(it's recommended that you read thoroughly through the installation instructions)

You don't need to delete the old version, you can have both installed (provided you install them into different folders), but you can't run both at the same time. Audacity 1.3.x will open projects saved in 1.2.x but not the other way.
