Mac Sound Test

Just for grins and giggles, I set my 13" MacBook Air up on a multiple folded-over bath towel on the desk in my soundproofed third bedroom. I went into Mac System Preferences > built-in-microphone and turned off Ambient Noise Reduction. I did multiple tests but this is the important one.

I announced a sound test according to these guidelines:

I corrected the clip using

Normalize
Noise Reduction (gentle, 6, 6, 6)
Compression (gentle, 2:1)
Normalize.

I heard that “thing” after the word Noise. That’s happened with other microphones and machines. My suspicion is my close-in metal desk lamp is forming a resonant cavity at just the right conditions. That will be almost as much fun to find as the hum from my leaky bass cabinet.

Oh, and yes, my voice is profoundly non-symmetrical. That’s messed up several microphone tests. Never do sound quality tests with a broken voice. Make a note of that.
