Audio problem recording a podcast

Hello everybody !

First sorry for my English very aproximative.

Actually i’m recording music sélections with a numark mixdeck quad.
I’m mixing discs on two channels, my problem is that audacity is recording the sound of the headphones (even the channel concerned is off).

Anybody know the solution please ?
i’m sure that is Something easy but i’m bad with computers too.

Thanks ! have a good day !

Choose the correct recording device in Audacity’s Device Toolbar.

Look at the settings on the mixer in respect of whatever it is that you are trying to record (a mix of two sound tracks or whatever). What audio is in the headphones now?

Gale

thank you gale for your answer but i don’t understand all the device toolbar topic.

My objective is that record the sounds of the speakers and keep the sound of the headphones for me just for prepare the next track.

When i put (i’m testing all the combinations posible) :

  • MME / mixdeck quad or sound mapping / mono or stereo / speakers (mixdeck quad) or Numeric Audio (SPDIF)
  • Direct Sound / mixdeck or Audio capture Principal / mono or stereo / speakers (mixdeck quad) or numeric audio (SPDIF)

The result is the same : Audacity is recording the sound of my headphones.

And when i put :

Windows WASAPI / mixdeck quad /mono or stereo / speakers (mixdeck quad)

i recieve : “Error while opening sound device Please the recording device settings and the project sample rate”

Sorry one more time for my level

Thank you gale !

If you want to record computer playback, see Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual.

You want to choose something like:

Windows WASAPI host
Recording device: Speakers (mixdeck quad) (loopback)
Recording channels: 2
Playback device: Speakers (mixdeck quad)

Drag Device Toolbar wider at the right edge so you can see the choices more easily.

WASAPI (loopback) should work but you may have to match sample rates in Windows Sound so that Default Format sample rate is the same as Audacity Project Rate. Or, try with both Exclusive Mode boxes enabled (underneath Default Format in Windows Sound).

I can’t help you beyond that.
