Is there a way to make people (voice) mumble

I want to have voice in the background (people talking) but I rather have them mumbling or wispering. So people can here them on the track but not be able to make out what they are saying.

So is there a way to make people sound like this, plus i want to keep thei voices natural.

Perhaps obvious, but…

Get a group of people, ask them to mumble, and record them?

That is alwayes a way but I have an audio that I like and want to use. I really like this voice track and I want to use it.
So I guess there is no way to do such a task with audacity

I guess there probably is, but as I’ve not heard the voice track that you really like, and you have not said what’s wrong with it, it’s not easy for me to suggest how to improve it.

Perhaps you could post a short section (see here: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-post-an-audio-sample/29851/1) and describe in words what the problem is.

Thank you for the reply, this one sounds very close to what I want , but is there a way to make it sound like hi is the only one talking.

You can make the voice a bit “muffled” by applying the “Low Pass Filter” http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/low_pass_filter.html
but you will still be able to hear what he is saying unless you apply it very severely.

I used the “Delay” effect: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/delay.html

First, ensure that the track is “32 bit float” (see: “Set sample format” http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/track_drop_down_menu.html#format)

Optional: Apply the low pass filter.

Then apply the delay effect:
Delay type: Reverse bouncing ball
Delay level: 0
Delay time: about 1.3
Pitch change per echo: about -1 I think
Everything else at defaults. Ignore the first couple of second, the effect gradually builds up.

After applying delay, you will need to use the Amplify effect to reduce the level a bit (to avoid distortion).
