recording live radio

I want to record sections from bbc radio 4 programmes that are only available as “play it again” vs podcasts. e.g the Today programme.
so play programme on laptop and record relevant section.
Is this possible. Sorry if already answered, could not find any reference - newbie!

I shan’t answer specifically about “play it again” as I don’t know what the legal / copyright situation is (you should check), but for the general case of recording sounds that are playing on the computer, see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer.html

Note: on Windows, the “WASAPI loopback” method described here is usually the best solution: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html

I’ve also tried and failed at recording from the radio. To me there’s a couple of options:

  • if you aren’t too bothered about sound quality, you could just use a voice recorder you find on most smart phones these days. Put the phone near the radio speaker, hit record, and voila. As I said, it’s not very hi-fi.
  • if you don’t have a phone with a voice recorder on it, you could use a hand-held multi-track recorder like this one: https://zinginstruments.com/best-digital-multitrack-recorders-review

Neither ideas consider the legal implications of recording from the radio, I’m not sure either on that front.

used a dictaphone in a smartphone, a bad sound quality came out.

Is that a question, or are you replying to another message?
