After upgrade to 2.2.2, no spanish language

Hi,
I use kubuntu in my desktop and laptop, yesterday, in 2 computers, Audacity was upgrade to 2.2.2
After this upgrade, I view that, my language now in Audacity its English.
I go to Preferences-Interface and here, view that, Language are set in: System
(My system its in spanish).
But if select this field, not appears spanish language for select (others languages yes).
Before this upgrade, I have Audacity in spanish.

Regards!

On my system (Xubuntu), Spanish is listed as “Español”.

Same on my W10 and on my macOS engines.

It’s a change we made to 2.2.2 for all foreign languages - to express them as they are spelt locally.

We thought foreign users would like that :sunglasses:

WC

Yes, I search by Spanish or Español, any, not appears (in my 2 computers with kubuntu).

Attach a screenshot (There are 3 or 4 languages below in the drop-down, but they are Chinese and / or Japanese :slight_smile: )

That’s strange, because as you can see here, the Spanish translation is still in the source code.
Where does your 2.2.2 build come from? Did you build from source, or get it from a PPA, or something else?

Yes, its strange…
My build 2.2.2 its from PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuhandbook1/+archive/ubuntu/audacity

I suggest that you contact Panda Jim about the problem (contact details are on that page).

This is what my build looks like (built from the official 2.2.2 release tarball).

Thanks, I go to contact with Panda Jim about this.
I view your image and the languages, some languages, are differents, for example (you have Español and I not) you have Euskara (espainiako) and in my audacity, like español, I don’t have.

Regards.

Sorry for the bump this thread.
I upgrade to 2.3.1, removed older versions, install 2.3.1.
I have the same problem, I can’t set spanish language.
I was contact with Panda Jim about this but I don’t was reply.

Thanks and regards.

Are you looking in the right place? It is listed as “Español” (not “Spanish”) in “Edit menu > Preferences > Interface → Language:”

It’s possible that Panda Jim has not included the language files. Do you have the file:
/usr/share/locale/es/LC_MESSAGES/audacity.mo

Yes.
Also, I uninstall Audacity, deleted the folder /home/myuser/.Audacity-data

Install again.

Open Audacity, Edit Menu-Preferences-Interface-Language
Not appears any about spanish, or español or any about spanish language.
Appears a lot languages but any about spanish or español.

My system by default is spanish.

In this menu in Audacity I have set Language->System, and appears in english.

Thanks and regards.

Yes, I have this file.

I can “solved” the issue with this:
I open the file /home/myuser/.Audacity-data/audacity.cfg
In the line 232 appears this:

Language=

I change with this:

Language=es

Now, when start Audacity appears in spanish.

But in edit-preferences-interface-language continue with not apperas a spanish or español language.

Regards.

Good, at least you have a workaround.

I’m curious why it is not working in the expected way. What output do you get from:

locale -a

and

set | grep 'LANG'

Yes, at least I have a workaround :slight_smile:

This is in my kubuntu 18.04.2

A few minutes ago, in other computer with lubuntu 18.10, fresh install of audacity, the same issue, not appears spanish or español language.

Thanks and regards!

How about just:

locale

I get:

LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_GB:en
LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_GB.UTF-8"

Unfortunately I don’t understand Spanish well enough to be able to use a computer that has Spanish as the system language, but I’ve tested the underlying mechanism by setting a Ubuntu 18.04 system to French (system wide setting).

I then installed Audacity 2.3.1 from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuhandbook1/+archive/ubuntu/audacity

The language setting in audacity.cfg is:

[Locale]
Language=

Audacity correctly displays in French.

In conclusion, I don’t know if the problem is due to how the default language is set on your system, or if it is a problem with that Audacity 2.2.2 build, but the current Audacity 2.3.1 release does appear to work correctly.

Perhaps you could update us on the situation when you eventually update to Audacity 2.3.1.

I try in 3 differents computers, one with kutunbu, another with lubuntu and another with xubuntu.
In alls have the same issue.
But alls, are with Spanish language, no French :slight_smile:

Yes, of course!
But all these updates that I do are to 2.3.1.

In the following days, I will do a test on a computer, I will install the default version that comes in the official repositories of the distribution, which I do not remember what version it is, but install an earlier version, that way, if you install it in Spanish language
When I update to 2.3.1 by ppa indicated by you, it is when I can not set to Spanish language.
