Audacity crashes with playback of these files

I’m trying to create a backing track with these files:

But there is always a problem with Audacity freezing during playback and forcing me to kill the Audacity process.
It’s easy to replicate: load all the files and especially you will notice a crackling sound with the drums file. Then play back and pause playback multiple times at various places. Audacity will freeze and become unresponsive immediately after playback.
Also Audacity produces orphan files due to the crash.
I’m running Audacity 2.1.3 on Linux Mint 18.1.
Thanks in advance. this is a very frustrating bug.

Try using the “hw” option as the playback device rather than “default” or “pulse”.

Thanks for your reply - changing the audio output to “sysdefault” seemed to help a lot!

If you still get freezes, try the “hw” option. For example on my computer, the “hw” option is:
HDA Intel PCH: ALC268VC Analog (hw:0,0)

“(hw:0,0)” is usually the default (on-board) sound card.
