Help for Audacity 2.x.x on GNU/Linux.

ImageThis forum is for Audacity 2.x.x on GNU/Linux and Unix-like operating systems.
Please state which version of Linux you are using, the exact three-section version number of Audacity from Help > About Audacity... and whether you installed your distribution's release or daily version of Audacity or compiled Audacity from source code.

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

With a very heavy heart and loaded eyes I write these lines to let the Audacity Community know that our beloved and respected friend and colleague Gale Andrews passed away on August 10th, 2017.

His long involvement with Audacity is legendary. If you ever posted on the forum or sent an email to [email protected] you surely received a useful reply from him… right above a friendly reminder that “[email protected] is not a support address”. Yet he always, ALWAYS helped everyone.

As far as we know, the Audacity Community was his only family.

Please, we ask you to dedicate a moment to his memory the next time you open Audacity.

He was the very first person that always replied to my threads, didn't matter if it was a "help me" / suggestion / bug thread, and he was very kind. What a sad new.

Yes, I agree that Gale was always very helpful and kind. He was surely well-prepared in his material, as well! Blessings, Gale!

I imagine this person was one of those selfless people who codes amazing freeware that rivals expensive proprietary equivalents. May he rest in peace.

It's a long time since I've been active on the forum, but I've just heard the sad news.

Gale was always the first to help anyone who posted on the forum, and his replies were always clear and to the point.

He'll be sadly missed.

Je vais regretter son “Je ne parle pas le français”, tout en donnant patiemment le bon conseil.

I will regret his “Je ne parle pas le français”, while giving patiently the good advice.
