upgrading Audacity

OS: KDE Mint 17.3 “Rosa”, on Lenovo G585 laptop;
Audacity: v2.0.5, probably from KDE repository

Hello all,

Every time I log in, an alert appears on my screen. It warns me that v2.0.5 is not secure any more. And yes: I seem indeed a few upgrades behind.

I’d like to upgrade to v2.1.3, but I’m not sure how to go about with that. I have no experience at all with compiling. And the one PPA provided, on the download page, is described as ‘untrusted’.

What is the correct PPA to v2.1.3 please?

What is the actual message? (that is not a message from Audacity).

Perhaps worth upgrading to Mint 18 (which is based on Ubuntu 16.04).

I have been on KDE Mint 18.0 previously, but after a while it turned out to be really unstable. Therefore, I think I’ll stick to 17.3, for the time being.

In the meantime, I’d still like to upgrade Audacity. I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me to the correct PPA for v2.1.3.

Thank you very much.

The alert message appears to be specific to Mozilla Firefox.

No alert coming up when Audacity opens in Opera.

Are you talking about the Audacity website, or the Audacity program (audio editor)?
What is the actual message?
What exactly are you doing to make the message appear?

The Audacity website.
The text appearing is basically the same as the one I sent you the other day (alert from Mozilla Firefox).
I’m not doing anything extraordinary: just opening the Audacity Forums website in the usual manner. Then, upon clicking the LogIn boxes, a small pop-down text appears.
I tried opening Audacity in Opera as well. That was yesterday, and it opened just normally: no pop-down alert appearing.
But today it did. Again from Audacity Forum’s LogIn boxes.

Where is that?
I’ve an idea what the problem might be, but unless you tell us precisely what the error message says I can only guess. Please tell us what the exact error message is and then we can probably resolve the problem,

Upon opening Audacity Forums in Opera, and trying to log in, small pop-down appears, stating ‘log in not secure’. Then, after clicking on LEARN MORE, in that same pop-down, the following warning appears:

Upon opening Audacity forums in Mozilla Firefox, log in box says:

Login not secure: logins entered here could be compromised. On clicking LEARN MORE: see screenshot in about the middle of the page, below:

PS: I’m going to send you a pm now, further on this.

Check that the URL (web address) that you are using for the Audacity website begins with https:// and not just http://
You may need to update any bookmarks / favorites that you use for the Audacity website.

Hi Steve,

Audacity Forum’s URL in my system starts with http://

How to change that in https://?

FYI: I don’t have any bookmarks or favourites in the Audacity website.

just type it in.
