Audacity breaks recording via mic

Recording anything via microphone is fine and all up until I open Audacity :astonished: . It seems that it is messing up with ALSA and after that I am no longer able to record anything from the mic - after that any other application that tries to record/capture audio from mic just record silence.

I am running Audacity 2.1.2-1 (package from repo) on Linux Mint “Sarah” 4.4.0-38.

Any ideas on what might be causing this issue and how to fix it?

What is the make and model number of the mic? If it’s a USB mic, other applications can’t use it while Audacity is doing so, unless you select that mic in Pulse Audio Volume Control (pavucontrol) then choose the “pulse” recording device in Audacity.
