Audacity and movie files (ffmpeg)

Hi,

I use linux Gentoo and Audacity for a long time. Usually I use Audacity to improve my audio in my movie files (.MOV or .mp4). Tonight in Gentoo, as a part of update to 2.0.3 it was removed ffmpeg flag, so I am unable to load any of .MOV or .mp4 files and after eg. using Import Raw I have only a white noise. I was trying to downgrade to 2.0.0 but Gentoo no longer support Audacity with ffmpeg. Is there any chance I can use Audacity as I used to? Maybe other flags support movie files?

  • Found these USE flags for media-sound/audacity-2.0.0:
    U I
    • alsa : Adds support for media-libs/alsa-lib (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture)
    • flac : Adds support for FLAC: Free Lossless Audio Codec
    • id3tag : Enables ID3 tagging with id3tag library
    • jack : Adds support for the JACK Audio Connection Kit
    • ladspa : Enables the ability to support ladspa plugins
    • libsamplerate : Build with support for converting sample rates using libsamplerate
    • midi : Enables MIDI support
    • mp3 : Add support for reading mp3 files
    • soundtouch : Enables soundtouch library support for pitch and tempo changing
    • twolame : Enables twolame support (MPEG Audio Layer 2 encoder)
    • vamp : Enables vamp plugins support (Audio analysing plugins)
    • vorbis : Adds support for the OggVorbis audio codec

Which version of FFMpeg do you have installed?

If Gentoo have removed system FFmpeg as it sounds like, you’ll have to uninstall Audacity (if it is a packaged build you downloaded somewhere), build and install FFmpeg yourself then build and install Audacity yourself.
