auvisio USB preamplifier is not recognized

Hi,
I’ve built audacity 2.0.3 from source on my Gentoo system.
I’d like to use the ‘auvisio preamplifier PX-1080’ from C-Media Electronics to attach my (old) record player.
The device is connected by USB and shows up as /dev/input/event6
which I have symlinked to /dev/input/auvisio.

When I start audacity it doesn’t offer that device.
And Edit->Preferences->Devices doesn’t show it either.

What am I missing? Do I need some special kernel options/modules ?

Post the contents of Help > Audio Device Info… if you are still stuck, but test if other programs can see and record from this device first.
