"Audacity already running" problem (SOLVED)

Hi!

I’m running ubuntu 12.04 with a UA-25 EX.
Audacity worked for a few times. But suddenly I get the warning message “The system has detected that another copy of Audacity is running…” and I can’t open it.

I killed the task, and I reinstalled and rebooted a few times too. Any idea?

Thanks

A couple of things you could try:

  1. See if there is a lock file (called audacity-lock-<username/>) in "/var/tmp/audacity-<username/>/
    (<username/> is your user name)
    If there is, delete it.
  2. Try resetting the Audacity Preferences. To do that, delete the file audacity.cfg from ~/.audacity-data/

Also note that once Audacity is running, you cannot open further files from a file manager or the command-line; you will see the error you mention:

Thanks for your answers!

Awesome Steve! I deleted the " audacity-lock-<username/" file, and then it worked.

Thanks!
