Record PC audio when microphone is plugged in

Hi,

Im running Fedora 17 on a recent Lenovo laptop. I want to be able to record sound from the PC not the microphone when the headset and microphone are plugged in. However when the headset is plugged in every option records sound from the microphone or nothing not the speakers.

I can record audio from the PC speakers when the headset isnt plugged in and can record sound from the microphone when the headset is plugged in.

On the toolbar I have ALSA selected then Detault and the following options HDA Intel, Turtle Beach Headet USB Audio (HW 1:0), Sysdefault, Pulse, Detault.

How can I record sound from the speakers when the headset is plugged in?

Thanks.

Short answer: see here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/manual/help/manual/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_linux.html
Longer answer: first you fill in the missing pieces - why do you want to record sounds playing on the computer with your headset plugged in? What are you trying to do?

I’m a new linux user moved from Windows 7 a couple of weeks ago. I record the audio of some casts so I can listen to them again. I also have skype and linphone open and its a pain to close them down unplug the mic and the plug everything back in and check its working.

So I’m trying to record sound the comes from the speakers instead of the microphone.

Aha pavucontrol select recording source while its recording and the setting saves! Think my bad googling I was searching for record pc sound with microphone plugged in etc.

Thanks.
