I downloaded the 2.0.1 for Linux from the official Audacity download site and I unpacked it but I don’t know what to do next. I’m using openSUSE 12.1 and I have Audacity 1.3.13-beta which is the latest that shows up if I try to install using YaST. Am I missing the correct repository for Audacity?
Any help is appreciated. I am an advanced beginner. Love Audacity. I use the PC version as well and that installed fine on another machine.
Audacity does not release packages for Linux, only the source code. The people that maintain the repositories for different Linux distributions can then “build” Audacity from the source code and make it available as a downloadable package. The easiest way to install Audacity 2.0 (or 2.0.1) on Linux is to find a suitable package for your distribution. For Open Suse you would be looking for a RPM package from a trusted source that has been built for your version of Open Suse.
Alternatively you could build Audacity from the source code yourself.

Thanks Steve. I took a look and the instructions are too complex for me at my stage of knowledge.
So alternatively, I should ask on the SUSE forum to see if anyone knows of an Audacity 2.0.1 RPM that exists on some repository for my version of SUSE?
