RECORD LEVEL ON MAC HIGH SIERRA 10.13.4

Just installed Audacity 2.2.2 and recording volume slider is inaccessible and locked at high end. Pop up says to use system audio mixer but I cannot locate one in Sound preferences or Audio Midi Setup utility. Has anyone else run into this or have a solution? Thanks.

You must be using a USB sound device. Please have a look at this page and see if it helps.

Yes, I’m using a USB Electro Brand turntable. I tried the directions at the link you included but they didn’t help. The options in the configuration dropdown of the audio midi setup utility are all greyed out.

The point is that you can’t adjust the recording level when using a USB audio device. The only way to control the recording level is to control the level going into the device. This is not a fault in Audacity.

Okay. Thanks.
