Can a USB Audio Codec be installed on a Mac ?

Help for Audacity 2.x.x on Mac OS X.

ImageThis forum is for Audacity 2.x.x on Mac OS X 10.4 and later.
Please state which version of macOS you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Audacity menu > About Audacity".

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

Hello

I was wondering if a USB audio codec can be installed on a Mac running Snow Leopard ? Or do I have to buy a new version of Mac OSX ?

Any info is appreciated

Snow Leopard is 10.6. You can upgrade for free, but it takes two steps. See this page from Apple.

How does this relate to Audacity? Are you trying to record from an external USB audio converter? If so, which make and model.

Also, what Mac are you using. Not all can be upgraded to 10.13.

Does the information on this page help?

Hello

Thanks for the reply. I tried to download the MacOS High Sierra but it said my computer is not compatible. I was thinking of downloading Mac OSX Lion but I am not sure if the USB Audio Codec is in there. I bought the Behringer UFO 202 as an external USB converter. I looked at those page that you referred to but the Audio Codec is not on my computer at all.

Have you plugged the UFO202 into the computer? "USB Audio CODEC" will not show up in System Sound Preferences until you do.

I think you're working too hard.

Plug the UCA-202 into your machine and let it settle for a bit.

Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Audio > Input. Somewhere in that list it should say USB Audio CODEC. If you send sound into the UCA-202, the Mac bouncing light sound meter should bounce. (Click the graphic if it doesn't fit).

If you get it that far, start or restart Audacity. Look in the device toolbar and the USB Audio CODEC should be there.
