I ran into the save project as error of 2.2.1 detailed here. Is there a way to recover from this? My logs say I have one file missing “_data/.au”.
My thought was that the .aup file lists the files used and how they were used, correct? Thus, can I use the .aup file and the original audio files to create a new project (with using .au files)? If so, how?
If you have your AUP Project Manager File and your _DATA folder full of little AU files in the same place or folder, you should be able to double click the AUP file and Audacity should open with complaints asking what it should do about the missing pieces. Try “replace them with silence.” That will retain the original show length only with a hole(s) in it. I think they’re about 6 seconds long.

It’s not that easy. Your AUP file starts filling up only when you start editing. If you have no edits, the AUP file reads something like:
“Play everything in the expected order. Have a happy day.”
