How to nudge an audio track segment earlier or later

I have a track with a number of individual, separated segments (sorry, can’t find a technical term for that), and am trying to select the audio track segment in it’s entirerty, and then adjusting either the Audio Position numbers or the Start/End of selection. After making that adjustment, I’m then hitting return.

However, I’m not finding this changes the track segment position in any way.

The amount I’m wanting to change is too small to use the Time Shift Tool and drag, but am not understanding how to move the selected audio bit.

In other words, on the attachment, I’m trying to adjust the 'Samples" section of either the Audio Position or the Start and End of Selection to 11s 00000 samples.

This page in the manual would seem to address it, but per the above, my adjustments aren’t having any impact.

Thanks for any help on this.

The desperation method has you magnifying the tracks repeatedly until Samples show on the timeline. In the example, I moved one track three digital samples later than the other with the Time Shift Tool.

Thanks, Koz.

So there isn’t a way to move a track segment a numerical amount based on timeline location?

To move a track later by an exact amount:

  1. Place the cursor at the start of the track

  2. “Generate menu > Silence” (http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/silence.html) and set the required time. Note that you can change the time units to show milliseconds or samples (and several other formats).

To move a track earlier by an exact amount:

  3. Place the cursor at the start of the track

  4. Use the “Selection Toolbar” to select the exact amount (http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/selection_toolbar.html)

  5. Delete the selection (can be empty space). The “DEL” key should work, otherwise you can delete via the Edit menu.

Thank you very much, Steve. Very helpful.
