Envelope Tool disabled 2.1.0

I am using 2.1.0 on Mac Book Air Yosemite 10.10.5

I have 3 tracks combined in one file then I am trying to superpose a voice file over it.
To hear the voice I need to use the envelope tool to modulate the music tracks.

I was able to do so when the tracks were not combined. As son as I used the Time Shift Tool to bring 3 tracks one after another the envelope tool became disabled see screenshot attached

I can neither use the envelope tool on the music track nor on the voice track.

Has anybody been faced with this bug and if yes how did you fix it?

thanks
Val.

Are you in Pause? Lots of tools go away when you’re in Pause.

Koz

I had stopped to play the track but not clicked in pause…should I instal the new version instead?
thanks for your quick answer!!! you rock

Are you sure you’re not in Pause—click the keyboard P key? That’s the only way I can get the forbidden symbol along with the Green position arrow and cursor in different places.

Click P again.

Did you report your version correctly, as 2.1.0?

That is several versions out of date.

Please confirm that you do not mean one of the release candidates of the recent 2.2.1.

I have not reproduced the problem in 2.2.1.

I think Koz is right that there is a paused play in progress, because I see that the Stop button (the square) is bold yellow.

You can click that square button.

Are you using Audacity 2.1.0 (as your topic title says) or 2.2.1 RC2 (as the forum board says)?

In the absence of a reply, I assume that it is Audacity 2.1.0, so I’ll move this topic to the Mac forum.
