Excessive FAN noise using Audacity with MacBook

I am running an early 2011 MacBook running MAC Sierra version 10.12.5 and Audacity 2.1.3. I have been recording my voice successfully using this method for years but lately I have been getting excessive fan noise on the mac within about 30 seconds or so of recording - it is too loud to filter out. Any ideas?

I don’t speak Mac, but is it possible you’re recording from the computer’s built-in mic by accident ?,
(that would have loud fan noise).

Optical drive? Weighs as much as a Land Rover?

fan noise on the mac within about 30 seconds or so of recording

What does that mean?

Describe your system. Are you using the Mac built-in microphone?

Do you regularly clean out your Mac with a vacuum? I opened up mine a while back and cleaned it out with a spoon (best left for the service people).

Those vents (2) pick up speed as their efficiency goes down and I wouldn’t be shocked if even with gentle use, the fans are running full throttle. Put your ear down at the hinge. In a quiet room, you should just get a very quiet whirring sound.

ACX’s recommended studio has one of these right next to the microphone and I’ve done that, too.

So, how are you doing that?
