Recording Volume Low

Hi Guys,

Pretty new user sorry.

I used to use audacity 2.1.1 on my windows PC to record dj sets from my Pioneer XDJ-R1 with no issues. I now have a macbook using Audaicity 2.1.1 for mac (DMG) and the recording volume on the waveform is really small and I cannot figure out how to get it to just be the same as when I was using it on windows.

Thanks in advance

Also forgot to mention:

Both times I used a USB direct from the XDJ-R1 to laptop or Mac… and both screenshot used had the exact sound and input levels FYI

Macs don’t provide any level controls for most USB audio devices, which is why the Audacity recording level slider is greyed out.

Does your Mac have a stereo Line-in? If so, can you use analogue outputs from the Pioneer device to connect to stereo Line-in?

Thanks Gale,

By stereo input do you mean the headphone jack? It does but I thought that was a mono input? I tried using an RCA to 3.5mm jack from the booth out of the mixer to the mac headphone jack but It didn’t recognise any signal coming in … and then I added a TRS to TRRS adaptor to reverse the flow, which worked but the quality is not there.

Is there a fix for this without having to buy an external sound card?
Cheers

Exactly so, if you buy a Mac that does not give you high quality (line level) audio input.

Perhaps you could take analogue outputs of the mixer and feed them to a USB device that has an input gain control like ART USB Dual Pre. But first you should check that your levels out of the mixer really can’t go any higher.
