Some time ago I downloaded–apparently–a demo version of Revalver, a guitar amp modeling software. I never did anything with it so I dumped it; or so I thought. Now, every time I launch Audacity, before I can do anything else, I get a warning message saying “ReValver Mk III…Could not find directory ‘/Library/Application Support/Peavey Electronics/ReValver Mk III’ ReValver Mk III may not be installed properly.” I’ve done a search of m harddrive and can find nothing related to ReValver. Anyone know how I can stop this bothersome warning?

No, I’ve already been to that Library directory and there is no “Peavey Electronics” folder in the Applications Support folder. And as I wrote, a search of my computer reveals nothing with ReValver (or Peavey) in the name. I mean it’s Audacity that’s looking for the Library, not I. How do I stop Audacity from “wanting” to find it?
I would assume you trashed the support files for the plug-in but not the plug-in.

That explains where the plug-in might be, according to whether it is an Audio Unit or VST plug-in.
In other words if it is an Audio Unit it will be in one of ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components or /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components.
If it is a VST it will be in the Audacity “Plug-ins” folder or in one of ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST or /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST.
If you want you can click Audacity > Preferences: Effects and uncheck Audio Unit or VST then click OK to stop Audacity looking for the plug-in. But doing that will disable all Audio Unit or VST plug-ins.

Wow. Okay. You hit that one on the head. There were Peavey AND ReValver plug-ins lurking. I trashed them and that warning message at start up is gone. Thanks so much.
Of course, the question that remains is why on earth did neither of these things register when I did a system search for “ReValver” and “Peavey”? But that’s for another forum.

It’s confusing. When I searched for my LADSPA plug-ins installed on OS X 10.8 in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/LADSPA, they weren’t found, although Mac doesn’t actually hide the system Library folder (it does hide the user’s Library folder (~/Library).
It seems you need to go through the following steps to add system files to the search options, and then choose that option whenever you search (this still holds true for OS X 10.8):
