I’m running OS X version 10.8.2. I’ve installed the latest Audacity software that I downloaded from the website, but my USB audio device is not recognized in Preferences. The manual says to check to see if the drivers were installed properly. I do not see “USB PnP Audio Device” in the list of devices recognized by my Mac.
Did you check Mac system preferences?
Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input.
If it doesn’t appear there, then it failed to mount and the rest of the machine will never find it.

Thank you. I checked and see that “USB Audio Device” appears in Preferences under Sound/Input. Is that enough to be able to import files from the device into Audacity?
If not … what should I do? If so … how does Audacity find the files on the device?
If the USB device does not appear in the Device Toolbar, try “Transport menu > Rescan Audio Devices”.
(Rescanning should not be necessary if the USB device is connected before you launch Audacity)
