I want to start recording on Sat/ 6am and Sun/9am.

I did this 3 years ago using Microsoft Task Scheduler. Someone here showed how to do it
I had it running but somehow I smutched it up about a year ago and cannot seem to get it going again.
I would appreciate it if someone can help me get it going again.

Your old posts on this subject, (mostly from 2014), can be seen via this link …

It is not a matter of having the code to start/stop Audacity. I have all of the original files.
I can even set up TS triggers.
Rather, how do I get the Task Scheduler top see/run the files?
Somehow it needs to know the name of the file to use.

It’s been years since I last used Microsoft’s Task Scheduler, (a horribly complicated thing IIRC).

Here’s a link to the users manual … https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa446802(v=vs.85).aspx

Whilst Audacity can record on a timer, it seems like overkill for that task.
There is software (apps) specifically-designed to record scheduled internet-radio …

I am looking into the scheduler link.

Any of the apps suggested are themselves all over kill since I already have an online source Juke box designed.
All I need do is schedule Audacity to start recording.

“Whilst Audacity can record on a timer,”
Does this suggest that Audacity has this as a feature?
That would be smooth…

OMG… After all this struggle to do timed recordings using Windows Task Scheduler, it actually exists in Audacity.
Either I missed the discussion or no one mentioned it.

On a whim, I did a search for “Audacity Timer”. I found a discussion dated 2012 that explained that there is a menu option specifically for that. (Transport/Record/ Timer)
Just a few intuitive selections and I set a recorder to start at 6am until 11pm to record a full day audio track. Mission accomplished.
Granted, I wanted to do something hourly but a single all-day recording certainly beats starting at Midnight to catch the 6am start time.

Now, how about an option to start multiple timers?

Well, it’s been there a very long time in Audacity - I’ve been using it for 10 years or so  :sunglasses:

Th manual is always your friend: Timer Record - Audacity Manual

There is a long-standing Feature Request for thar - would you like me to add your vote?

But don’t hold your breath. the volunteer dev team is pretty small these days and TR is not a priority for any of them

Yes, add my vote.

However, is the timer fully operational?

I ran a test record last night. I set it to start recording at 6am to stop at 7am.
It started at 6am and here at 9:30 it is still recording.
Record start date is valid, Duration is 1 hour.

I woke up at 6:30 and it looked as if it was scheduled to stop at 6:50.
When I looked again at 8:00 and it was still recording.

I could not use any method to stop it until I clicked to close the window when nothing could be saved.

I will try again today.

This is longstanding moonphase bug #42: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42

Mostly for me it works fine twice a week at least normally - only once in recent years has it failed fir me: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42#c29

We are finding almost impossible to track this bug down as we can’t get a reproducible set of steps to reproduce it.

Peter.

For me, it is failing all the time. I cannot get it to work once.
I set it up, it starts, the popup chart does not show progress.
After the designated 10 minutes, it does not stop recording. “Stop” asks me if I really want to stop but clicking Yes, does nothing. I have to close the Audacity window and exit without waiting. It looks as if I can recover the track when I re-open Audacity.

Not a pretty picture…
Speaking of picture, I do not see how to include one. I have a screen shot that might explain better but it is not on-line for me to place a URL to it.

See … https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

Ok, It should be there…

Thanks for the report Emerogork - I have added your report and screengrab image to the bug thread: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42#c37

Audacity timer fail.JPG
Update.
Here is a more updateder pic. It shows that the timer reports the first 10 seconds of the recording attempt. Time left reflects the total set time minus the 10 seconds.
“Stop” does nothing. Clicking to close the timer window prompts “Are you sure…” but the recorder does not stop. To gain control of Audacity again, I have to use the task manager to force the closure of the software. When I re-open Audacity, it reports that I can recover the track and the track gets recovered.

Just a note, I did get it to stop once by hitting the stop button and that was the only time I was able to do so.
All other timer sessions had to be stopped by using the task manager.
