vocal removal using 2.2.1

Ie
2. split stereo file
3. invert right channel track
4. covert both left and right tracks to mono

My Problem:
I don’t see anywhere to convert the L & R tracks to mono in this version of the software. In videos I’ve watched there is a mono option on each of the tracks (L & R), but I just don’t see that option in this version. Is removing vocals to create a karaoke track still possible in version 2.2.1 for Windows 10? I am using windows 10 with latest version updates.

thanks for your help in advance,
sirleslie

The “Vocal Remover” effect will do that all in one step. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/vocal_remover.html
Alternatively you can use the “Remove Vocals” option in the newer “Vocal Reduction and Isolation” effect and that does the same: Vocal Reduction and Isolation - Audacity Manual

If you must do it manually, the command to convert back to mono is:
“Tracks menu > Mix > Mix Stereo down to Mono” Tracks Menu: Mix - Audacity Manual

Thanks, I will give your tips a try!

All that and there’s no guarantee it’s going to work. There’s a long list of conditions that will cause Vocal Removal to fail, and it does fail a lot of the time.

Some really odd things like someone added stereo reverb to the main singer, The singer goes but the reverb stays around. That’s what happened to this clip.

Simple Vocal Removal will take out anything in the middle such as the main singer and drums and bass.

Let us know if it worked.
