Playback Ticking associated with NVIDIA Video Drivers SOLVED

FOR YOUR INFORMATION – Problem and Solution

Audacity 2.1.3 Executable Install, Build Date March 8, 2017

Problem: Video Driver conflict

  • HP Pavilion dv9000 Laptop with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 video hardware
DUAL BOOT Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and Windows 10
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Model SB0270 (Digital Music MP3+) USB I/O

With Windows 7 ticking increasingly audible the further you zoom into the waveform while in playback mode. Changed USB audio drivers from Windows version to the official version from Sound Blaster – problem persists. Same hardware (Dual Boot) on the Windows 10 (v7.15.11.7713, Date 12/3/2008) no audio playback ticking. Switched back to Windows 7 Professional on the same hardware there is ticking with the automatic NVIDIA driver (v 7.15.11.7976, date 3/6/2009) installed by Microsoft. Ticking disappeared with the removal of the video driver and using the standard vga driver. It is also absent with the manually installed NVIDIA driver (v 7.15.10.9804, date 1/25/2007) and (v 7.15.11.9816, date 3/12/2007). These are earlier versions without monitor color correction features. The later versions include these features but cause ticking.

Downloaded drivers that work (correct display resolution, but no color correction) at: http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=nVidia+-+Display+-+NVIDIA+GeForce+Go+7600

I hope this information helps someone with older hardware.
