audacity not recording from realtek internal mic

Hi guys
im using the latest version of audacity on windows ten ,and this problem has me totally stumped …
all my settings seem fine the sound card is enabled but no matter what preference i put into the recording bit it just wont record sound from the internal card ,but will through a mic attached through the mic jack
it totally flat lines all the time
I have recorded no problem previously
ive tried updating drivers and programs to no avail
Any clues or guidance on how to fix this problem would be a great help
Thanks

Does you internal mic work with other applications? Maybe it’s defective or disabled?

Have you selected the internal mic as your Recording Device? Does it show up as an option?

An external (analog) mic is also using your internal soundcard. A USB mic/headset does not use the internal soundcard.

Windows recording-devices can be hidden, here’s how to show and enable them all …

Audacity can only record from enabled devices.

That’s different from the title of the post. If you have a desktop machine, it could have a soundcard but no internal microphone.
