Docking Station

Have a user that when plugged into docking station , Audacity will not work…take out of dock and works fine. We’ve tried multiple versions and still no joy. Laptop is an HP 840 G3 which is working fine except for this one exception. Even after reimage same results…out of dock works fine.

Ideas?

Which model docking station?
What does “will not work” mean precisely?
Which version of Audacity are you using?
Does the docking station work with other audio applications (for example, Skype)?
Why do you need to use the docking station?

Hi Steve…thanks for getting back to us. Answers:

Which model docking station? A: Ultraslim Docking Station (used with HP Elitebook 840)
What does “will not work” mean precisely? A: The “cursor” that moves along left to right while recording is stuck at 0:00. Nothing is recording. Audio comes out of speakers, but there is nothing happening in Audacity except the “cursor” is pulsing.
Which version of Audacity are you using? A: Multiple versions have been tried…all same results.
Does the docking station work with other audio applications (for example, Skype)? A: Yes, works with all other apps.
Why do you need to use the docking station? A: So user has easier access to monitor, keyboard, etc.

*We have tried changing docking stations too swapping in new ones…all same results.

Thanks for any help you can give

What are you trying to record? I presume that you’re not recording from a microphone.
Where are the speakers attached or what are they built into?
Did you launch Audacity before or after putting the laptop into the docking station?

My guess is that your settings in the device toolbar are wrong, and/or you launched Audacity, then docked the laptop, and that the act of docking the laptop changed the available audio devices. Dock the laptop first, then launch Audacity, then check your settings in the device toolbar.
