Help for Audacity 2.x.x on Windows.

ImageThis forum is for Audacity 2.x.x on Windows.

  • Please state which version of Windows you are using, the exact three-section version of Audacity from Help > About Audacity and whether you obtained the .exe installer or the zip.

  • Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at http://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

Missing Leveler [SOLVED]

Good Afternoon
I work for a radio station and I use Audacity daily to cut are commercial and news spot. The newest version that I had to download due to a computer crash no longer has the leveler option. I used this option a LOT :?: . What option does the same job as the leveler or is there a way I can get an older version of Audacity to download?

Thank you very much for your help.

The Leveller effect is now available in the new "Distortion" effect http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/distortion.html

That's possibly worrying. Were you aware that it causes distortion? If you specifically want that type of 'soft' distortion, then use the Distortion effect - the "Leveler" presets are identical to the old effect. If on the other hand you want to reduce the dynamic range ('level' out the loudness) without creating distortion, try the Limiter effect with the "soft limit" option http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/limiter.html
