Volume balance changes on start

Audacity changes my volume settings when it starts. Volume balance becomes 50% on each channel like default settings. Why? I have some other settings for my audioroom. I tried to change host interface, but it didn’t help.

Why do you need unbalanced settings? Because you are farther from one speaker than another?

You did not say what version of Audacity you are using, but unfortunately It is an Audacity bug (or bug in the PortAudio audio I/O library we use) in recent Audacity versions. It is listed in the Audacity 2.1.3 Release Notes.

As it says there, it is possible that choosing Windows WASAPI host in Audacity’s Device Toolbar may fix it. If not, you could go back to Audacity 2.0.2 https://code.google.com/p/audacity/downloads/detail?name=audacity-win-2.0.2.exe.

Alternatively there is another solution here https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/bug-audio-balance/37542/11 to automate unbalancing the sound device after launching Audacity.

but then of course you lose the benefits of all the bug fixes, new features and improvements that have been made in the 5 years since 2.0.2 was released.

Thanks for the answer. Audacity 2.1.3 of course, Windows 7 (6.1.7601).

Maybe we should notify the author? I found some list but I don’t see the right raw.

Checked, it doesn’t work.

This is at least some solution, NirCmd is useful utility.

Actually, no. I work with electronic circuit boards and use the signal generator for each audio channel, so I can’t just move a speaker closer to me.
By the way audacity also switching off linear input when it starts. I think it’s the same problem.

You would have to write to their mailing list: PortAudio - an Open-Source Cross-Platform Audio API.

Here is the report on our bug tracker: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1321.
