Windows 7
Audacity 2.1.1
When I do a usual amplification, the message now always comes, “could not create autosave file”. The amplifications are successful. What is wrong?
I find that the error message comes with any change or edit I make in the project. It doesn’t happen on another project I have open.
Export the project or each track therefrom as WAV.
Import the WAV files into a new project and save that as a new Audacity project with a different name.
Upgrade to Audacity 2.1.3 from Audacity ® | Download for Windows .

I have been facing the same issue in version 2.3.1 in Windows 10.
I managed to solve those issues by adding Audacity to the authorized apps list, following the following instructions.
Search start menu for “Controlled folder access” and open its settings
Click “Allow an app through Controlled folder access”, and add Audacity
Problem is gone
