Audacity recording quality drops when screen recording

Hey all, I’ve run into an issue wherein the quality of the audio recorded from Audacity drops significantly when I start to screen record using Action! Here’s what I’ve tried so far: Update both Audacity and Action! - check, record audio in Action! through a different mic - no change, don’t record any audio through Action! - no change. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I’m running Audacity 2.1.3 on Windows 10.

Best not to record games and commentary with Audacity involved. Use other software to do the entire job. such as OBS or VoiceMeeter Banana.

If it’s the mic that you are trying to record in Audacity, turn off all enhancements in Windows Sound http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements.

If the quality of the game recording drops when you use the mic, set Windows Communications settings to “Do nothing”: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#vistacp.

Thanks for the response. My issue is with the mic getting worse when I start recording so I followed the first link you gave, however, I was unable to follow the steps listed there because there was no enhancement tab in the settings. Google why has so far turned up nothing any ideas?

What is the make and model number of the mic and how does it connect to the computer? It is that mic for which you have to look at all the options in Windows Sound. If the mic connects to the built-in sound card, also look in the sound card’s own control panel (in the Windows Control Panel).

If the problem with the mic sound is dropouts, then your computer is not fast enough to record with a different application than that recording the game audio. See http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Managing_Computer_Resources_and_Drivers.

If the mic problem is fading, make sure Skype is shut down.

The mic is a Razer Siren connected via USB. That is the microphone I was looking at in the sound panel. It is connected to the built-in sound card, but looking in the control panel I can’t the control panel for it, do you happen to know what it would be called? I’m not getting any dropouts and checking CPU and RAM usage while recording shows that I still have a fair amount of power leftover. I’m not having any problems with fading, in fact, the microphone gets louder.

There seems to be no such mic. Did you mean Seiren?

I don’t see how it can be connected to the built in sound card unless you have Seiren Pro and are using the XLR to 3.5 mm connection. Is that what you are doing?

According to http://www.razersupport.com/gaming-audio/razer-seiren/ you have to install Razer Synapse to give you the correct drivers for the mic. Have you done that? I think Synapse has its own control panel and has lots of settings for the mic. If you have questions, contact Razer support directly as per http://www.razersupport.com/gaming-audio/razer-seiren/.

The microphone name as I misspell. I do have the most recent drivers installed from Synapse, I’ll shoot Razer support an email and see if they have any ideas.

I contacted Razer support, but apparently, I can’t be helped because my product is out of warranty… I’ve run out of ideas and I’d like to not buy a new microphone at this moment in time.

Unfortunately we cannot see your computer from here. Exactly which Seiren is it, and are you using the XLR to 3.5mm connection as you implied when you said it connected to the built-in soundcard? If so, perhaps make it simpler and use the USB connection.

Also we have not heard a sample of the problem. Might you post a sample? See How to post an audio sample.

I expect the problem could possibly be solved by a setting in Synapse or possibly a setting in Action!. We can’t help you with that. Perhaps ask on a gaming forum (search the internet for forums where similar topics are answered). If Action! provide support, ask them.

Hey, sorry it took me so long to respond I got pretty busy. I’ve contacted Action!'s support team and am currently awaiting a response. I’ve already asked on one other forum but the person who responded couldn’t help, I can try a few others but I’m not super hopeful. I have some audio clips sitting on my desktop and I’ll upload them when I have a chance.
