Splitting audio tracks

Wondering if there is any way I could split an audio track like a duet. Could I take the two voices and make seperate tracks for them? I wanted to play around with the voices, but didn’t want both of them to have the same effect as if they were being edited as one. Any answers are appreciated.

Extracting and separating different voices that are in one track, is like removing the chicken from chicken soup. The result will never be the same as a real chicken. AFAIK, ain’t gonna happen. You can resave the track, emphasize different tone ranges, play around with the sound, but you’ll never be able to get a chicken out of that soup.

No. Unless the original duet was ping-pong – she was on the left and he was on the right, there’s no way to split them apart in Audacity. You would think you would be able to split them by voice, hers is higher than his, but that doesn’t work because there’s way too much overlap between the overtones and harmonics.
