I can hear the instrumental i imported if i just push play. But if i try to record over that instrumental, i cant hear the instrumental… help please

You’re doing multitrack or overdubbing? We wrote a wiki on setting up and playing to yourself.
You may not get to hear yourself while you’re recording. That’s the hard part of this, but there is no trouble at all listening to the old tracks while you record new ones.
The three Hardware portions of this wiki allow perfect overdubbing. You hear yourself exactly correctly mixed into the music tracks while you sing. If you try this with the computer only, you may not get to hear your live performance.

Transport menu > Overdub - make sure it’s checked. This is the setting that allows you to hear the previous tracks while recording a new one.
