The problem appears to be with the server. It may be due to an unusually high load on the server while large scale changes were being made to other parts of the web site. If the slowness persists I’ll investigate further.

It appears it was due to a spike of exceptionally high traffic to the web site.
Just as a matter of interest, there’s been over 50,000 downloads of Audacity 2.0 in the first 24 hours of it being released.
