I've gotten similar results using a combo of the Band Distortion plugin and the Bouncing Ball Echo plug-in, with the Echo done first and the settings cranked so short that the return is coming back a tiny fraction of a second before the outgoing sound (gives a nice "bathroom tile" singing in the shower effect, with a tiny hint of science fiction voice), and then distort it with the Band Distortion plugin. When you get a combo of settings that works for you, write down the numbers, you'll want to use this effect a lot.

The one I use was in this package of free plug-ins: http://mda.smartelectronix.com/
And this is the bouncing ball delay I use: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/bouncy_ ... electronix
