also UI maybe a heatmap/histogram showing
bit distrubution, see if comb/gaps characteristic if from lower bit depth source
a waveform height vs waveformslope (maybe also slope jaggedness)
also sample allocation and relation to headroom

Why? What's the use case?

use cases

- verifying if some audio filters actually process in 16-bit instead of 32-bit
- detecting clipping or near-clipping digital and/or analog variants where there would be different distribution of samples/deltas near (waveformspace-limit)
- some filters in the intermediate steps reduce volume dramatically and re-increase it later, if done poorly there would be quantization artifacts
- optimizing headroom vs qualtization (but have to take-into account inter-sample clipping also)

So if you have an effect and it sounds awesome, and then you discover that it is a 16-bit effect, will you refuse to use it?

also maybe include detection of NaN/+-inf of waveforms (not just clipping)

(was the cause of mysterious clicking/popping sound - the effect was prob confused synthetic silent pauses ( div by 0 err?)
