Gale Andrews wrote:What I quoted about Ion/Numark's reasons for dropping Audacity is public knowledge - see for example http://audacityteam.org/download/bundlers#playback . Their representatives told me several times that they were getting "hundreds" of complaints a week about Audacity. Exaggeration or not, and whatever their own misunderstanding about Audacity features, it's the reason they dropped Audacity.

I'm not bloomin' well surprised! :geek:

When I bought the ION iTT-USB their manual (regarding Audacity use) was not only inadequate - it was patently wrong in several places. It was precisely that that brought me to this forum in the first place as I (like may others - before and since) floundered to make it work by following the ION manual - and jolly glad I was at the time to find this helpful corner of cyberspace to set my digital recording to rights :D

1) label the silences - currently I do this by eye and by hand

(rhetorical) Why don't you use the Silence Finder for that?

Because I want to avoid false-positives. [rhetorical] Good reason? 8-)

And the fact that it takes 11 minutes or so to SF analyze a two hour file when I can usually spot the dropouts by eye (or ear) much quicker :geek:

That's strange. Nyquist is usually much faster on Windows than on Linux, and it takes less than 5 minutes here.

Unfortunately I don't think that I can make it faster, though hopefully I can make it more worth the wait.

It's my very old, slow, Dell desktop

Actually I have to confess: it did find one small gap that I'd missed by eye

I'd like to keep this topic as the "active" one.
This proposed Sound/Silence Marker on the first page of this topic is still current, but has been ruled out until there is a "simple" version such as "Album Track Finder", thus this topic is currently on hold.
