No audio output

No audio output

Audicity working fine (running ubuntu hardy on i686) except no output sound. Help!

Hello,
I just installed Windows Vista Business RTM...
Everything works well, except for the sound... the sound device is installed correctly, but I don't have any sound!
When I put my mouse on the sound icon (right under, next to the time) I get the following message:
No Audio Output Device is installed
I use a Notebook from HP (nx9420).
Could somebody please help me with this issue?

@colemancol - I know from your previous post that you are using a USB TT
When you plug in a USB device like this your computer hands over control of all sound services to the USB device - both input and output. Since you USB TT doesn't have a set of speakers, you then don't get any sound from the computer (not even the normal computer sounds).
All you need to do is to get your O/S and Audacity to retarget the sound output onto your computer's on-board soundcard. In Windows use Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio > Sound Playback (I don't know the MAC or Linux equivalent) - in Audacity use Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O > Playback Device - you may need to close and restart Audacity for the change to take effect.
BTW your other post was about hum you were hearing - I'm puzzled now: if you have no sopund as per this post how do you get hum?
