Beta Version Won't Open (Windows XP)

I've been using Audacity Beta for occasional noise cleaning since last summer.

Today, after processing several files, the program would not open. The icon appears on the windows status bar, but then it just hangs. The status window says the program is running, but the program window doesn't open.

I uninstalled, re-downloaded, and re-installed, but the same thing continues to happen.

Audacity stable continues to work just fine.

Anything else I can try?

I've noticed that it will sometime happen if I click clumsily on the Audacity Icon and do a multiple click by accident, causing more than one instance of Audacity to open. In such a case, a single instance is shown on the task bar, and it can not be opened as a window (permanently minimized). Pressing Alt+Tab will reveal that there is more than one instance of Audacity.

The solution in this case is to use the task manager to shut down all but one instance, then Audacity will open normally.

If this does not fix it, you may need to delete the audacity.cfg file. This is the configuration file, and it will be recreated next time you open Audacity. (make sure that Audacity is not running when you delete the file)

The default location is: Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Audacity\audacity.cfg
